Still Alive

Sometimes I think I am just a dream. A memory of a life never lived, but so eagerly wished for.
~ I have been quiet for so long. Hiding in the shadows. Hiding the hurt.
~ I’ve been breathing in so much used cigarette smoke. So many empty feelings.
~ I kissed them with numb lips and an absent heart.
~ I was ready to jump. No safety net. Just the ocean. Raging below me.
~ All that I have seen; how can I escape my own self, my own mind?
But I’ve finally shed that old skin of mine. The caterpillar’s gone now.
Now I’m no one you know. I’m not a dream, I’m explosions in the sky, a burning sun, a never-stopping river of light; I am alive.
